Material as Metaphor-Re-Thinking Acrylics

April 26-30
All Levels $565

In this five-day workshop you will deeply explore the potential of the acrylic material to inspire ideas and push the painting process. The workshop will include numerous technique-building exercises designed to help you begin to understand the capabilities of acrylics. With Patti as your guide, you will create "painting problems" and learn how to respond to each layer and the marks made and how to alter the quality of paint strokes, color, surface, transparency and /or opacity with confidence. The crux of the workshop will be exploring a richer vocabulary to enhance your current painting style. You are encouraged to bring old and current unfinished work to use as a departure point and be willing to rework, paint over, excavate and play with the surfaces. Realism, abstract and mixed media artists will all benefit from this innovative way of thinking about materials. Your time will alternate between group demonstrations, creating personal sample boards, group critiques (only for painting and creative possibilities, always on a positive or explorative note!), individual meetings, and focused painting time.
