Pastel Plein Air Boot Camp

Fundamentals: July 10-12, Independent study: July 13-15 , Resolve: July 16-18
Intermediate / Advanced $950

In this unique workshop format, master pastelist Richard McKinley will teach you the techniques and fundamentals necessary to structure a successful Plein Air painting and how to determine the necessary finishing touches that make a painting work. In the first 3 days you will learn how to produce a concise field sketch and improve your ability to accurately see value relationships and color harmonies when painting on location. Special emphasis will be placed on the mechanics of under-painting and how this can be utilized as a setup for pastel. During the 3 days of independent study you will have an opportunity to re-visit the painting sites and practice. Richard will be in the field mentoring, critiquing and painting along with the students. In the final 3 days you will learn how to resolve a field sketch back in the studio and how to re-interpret a field painting into a studio painting. Richard McKinley is a dedicated instructor. He has a wealth of information to share, is tireless in this pursuit and his intensity, focus and energy are legendary. This is an experience not to be missed.
