DAWN EMERSON
Painting Animals in Pastel

August 2-3-4
All Levels
$310

Join Dawn Emerson for this 3-day intensive workshop on painting animals in pastel. Emphasis will be on discovering inspiration through sketching and on maintaining a feeling of spontaneity throughout the finished piece. You will begin by sketching, to get the feel of the animal’s gestures and movement as well as it’s coloration and structure.  Next you will use those sketches and reference photographs to develop a painting with strong design, composition, bold use of color and effective backgrounds.  Dawn will also demonstrate on a variety of surfaces using several pastel techniques to illustrate different qualities of the animal. Photographing animals will also be covered.

Dawn studied art at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally and has won numerous awards.  Dawn is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Pastel Society of the West Coast.  A number of art magazines and two books have featured Dawn and her work, including Pastel Journal, International Artist, The Artists’ Magazine, and most recently Margot Schulzke’s A Painter’s Guide to Design and Composition.
